My journal is a time capsule of my life. Going through it even years later reminds me of what was going on when I used the journal. I rely a lot on my journal for to-do lists, reminders, and as a place for random notes and memories.
This year I started a new journal on January 1st and again on July 1st. Timing is not always perfect like that but this year it was.
Both journals this year are from Shop AmandaRachLee. The sticker is from Carlations.
This year I began including images that made me feel good just by looking at them. I found images off of Pinterest and printed them out. I also included quotes and advice I hoped to keep close to my conscious throughout the year.
I have been journaling in some form since 2004 so it feels weird to call this a bullet journal but I do include some of the standard “bujo spreads”. I have an birthday log, a tv series tracker, and in the past I’ve kept space for books I’d like to read. There is space for reflections, my goals throughout the year, and this year I included a spread for my level 10 life assessment. I don’t know who created this quiz but I learned about it here. Maybe I’ll update y’all on what I learned from doing it for a full year.
I am not particularly artistic with my spreads. This notebook is meant to be functional but every once in a while you will see stickers or pretty tape to make the page more visually interesting. Occasionally I doodle in the empty space when I don’t have other notes to include in that area.
Speaking of function, I do mean that I journal daily. I’m serious when I say it holds my to-do lists. Occasionally I’ll try to set up a monthly overview but I have yet to find what works for me there. That’s what Google Calendar is for. Instead, I set up a weekly running to-do list and sometimes I’ll break it up by day. Since my life is pretty flexible I don’t generally use a daily log.
In between to-do lists are usually my notes from various meetings, courses, and life events that come up throughout the week. While my Google calendar can tell you what I was probably doing on any random date my journals can definitely tell you what was going on in my life. I recently found an old journal from 2017 and was instantly transported back. What an interesting memory trip that was.
