An Update on My Autumn Bucket List – Halfway Through!

Okay, so this post is coming out later than expected. Life got busy and then we went on vacation. On the bright side, this means I can update you on how successful I have been at completing this list. Let’s just cut to the chase – here is my autumn bucket list:

Decorate for fall

I did this! We strung up some garland on the fireplace, put out a couple of plush pumpkins, and pulled out the fall-scented candle. We don’t usually go overboard for the holidays (and if we do, it’s just for Christmas).

Go to a pumpkin patch

Unfortunately, I think we missed this opportunity. We were going to go to a local pumpkin festival when we came back from vacation but we all came down with a cold.

Go on a nature walk

If I am being honest, I want to do more of this in general. Wrap me and my daughter up in our scarves and just walk aimlessly through our town, a park, or along the Sound. While doing this once is on my bucket list, let’s also consider this added to my general goals for the rest of the year. Plus, we did do this while we were on vacation. Walks on the beach probably cannot top anything else this year.

Make chicken noodle soup

This was our Halloween dinner! We made up some homemade chicken stock and then turned it into soup. Homemade French bread and pumpkin pies were the rest of that menu. We plan to make chili, butternut squash soup, and a beef stew in the coming weeks.

Light more candles and just relax

Did I mention the fall-scented candle? It is an “apple spiced donut” flavor and smells lovely. Now to take the time to light it and relax on the couch for a bit…

Take more breaks from work and solidify boundaries

The dream. No more working on Friday or Saturday. Let’s make this happen this month! It’s off to an okay start. I am being more intentional when I sit down to do work instead of doing it whenever I get an email. However, I just picked up another part time job that may ruin the work/life balance I am trying to achieve.

Take the time to be creative

This is a long-term goal that always drops to the bottom of my list when I get busy. This month I am taking an art course on basic acrylics. Yes, I paint with acrylics already, but I thought it would be nice to get back to the basics and just let myself relearn in a controlled environment. Hopefully, this course will kick start the fire so being creative doesn’t stay a low priority of mine.

Bake more bread

I love bread. I am already drooling thinking about all the things I want to make. Muffins, sourdough loaves, focaccia, cinnamon rolls, baguettes, etc. The list is long and I have the flour.

Play more board games

We have a collection of board games. Let’s play them all! Or at least once a week? Plus, I have a character in our Shadows of Brimstone campaign I would love to level up completely before retiring them.
