Hello and welcome back!
Today we take a look at what a day in my life looks like.
7:30 Alarm goes off and I wake up slowly. My daughter has always slept pretty well but I only recently decided to start waking up before her. It makes a big difference in how I feel during the day. Before it felt like I was rolling out of bed and walking straight to her crib. Now I am giving myself time to just wake up and I love it. I do hope to get to where I wake up an hour before her so I can get a little done in the morning but it’s a slow goal since I’ve always been a night owl.
8:00 Daughter is awake and playing in her crib. She enjoys her alone time as well so I usually wait for her to make a certain cry before I go get her. It’s her “I’m standing in my crib, arms up, yelling at the door so you know I am ready to get up” cry. Once her diaper is changed I get her a sippy cup of milk and a small bowl of cereal. She likes to eat slowly in the morning so I only give her finger foods that are easy to clean up. I also take this time to clean my teeth and brush my hair.
8:30 Yoga time! This is also new for me. It’s been a true struggle to find time to do any sort of workout without my daughter getting in the way. She seems to be old enough now to let me do my yoga while she plays around the living room or sits in my lap while doing the stretches. I try to encourage my husband to join in as well since he doesn’t really have to be at work until 9:30 am. Our daughter is completely enamored with him so if we are both doing yoga then she mostly tries to sit in his lap. Leaves me free to get better stretching in. Shout out to Yoga with Adriene on YouTube!
9:15 I take a moment in the morning to check my work email. While it is probably not the best way to start my day it does allow me to mentally prepare for whatever is being thrown my way when I do start working. Someone lost their paycheck so I know I need to void it with the bank and cut them a new one today.
9:30 I spend the next bit of time catching up with my husband as he makes the Earl Grey. This is also when our daughter wants me to read books to her the most. She absolutely loves reading and I hope it’s something we can continue to foster in her as she gets older. Today’s big hit is “Time to Pee” by Mo Willems. We suffer through a temper tantrum because she couldn’t go to work with her dad.
10:30 Time to make breakfast! I make open-faced breakfast sandwiches – sounds fancy but I promise it isn’t – with eggs, turkey, avocado, tomato, and cheese on sourdough bread. My husband and I are intermittent fasting so we try to put off eating until 11 am but if breakfast is ready sooner then I will get my daughter settled at the table. I try to enjoy my cup of tea but only get a few sips in before it is forgotten, hopefully to be picked up again once naptime hits. When she is not eating, we use this time for solo play. Right now she is trying on all the shoes that we own – currently, her dad’s shoe is on one foot and her sandal is on the other foot.
12:00 This is about when we try to wind down. My daughter and I will cuddle up on the couch and watch a little television. We just discovered T.O.T.S. on Disney+ so we watch a few episodes before naptime. She is quite the cuddle bug when she wants to be. She also is such a squirmer. She dug her heel in and gave me a bruise on my inner thigh. Ouch.
1:00 Now, it’s nap time for her! I take this time to jump into the shower and finish getting ready for my day. I finally start a load of laundry and make my bed.
1:30 Time to work work work work work. I grab what’s left of my tea and head upstairs.
3:00 I tiptoe downstairs to see if my daughter is awake. She’s not, so once I move the laundry over I get a small reprieve from everything and read a chapter from “A Man Called Ove” by Fredrik Bachman. My BFF suggested this book but I’m not sure it’s my cup of tea.
3:30 She’s up and it’s time for a snack. String cheese, apple slices, and a graham cracker. Then I spend the next chunk of time doing active play with her. Today it is mostly focused around her train set. Yes, she is a little young for it, but my husband JUST HAD TO HAVE IT (pretty sure it was a childhood dream of his) so now we are learning how to say “choo choo” and put the puzzle train tracks together.
4:30 I leave her to solo play and make sure the kitchen is clean to make dinner. This is another opportunity for me to check my email and make sure I am not missing anything important.
5:00 Typically I’d start making dinner now but today I have to head to a meeting. I leave instructions on what my husband needs to do and head back upstairs.
8:00 My meetings are done! I just missed our daughter’s bedtime which is sad because she is so cute when she says “bye” while waving at us. It’s how she says goodnight every night. Unfortunately, I have another hour of work to get done before I can call it a day.
9:30 Finally some real me time. I curl up on the couch and read some more of this book.
10:30 I take a moment and go through my evening routine before crawling into bed with my journal. I’ll write a little bit before finally turning off the light around 11:30 pm. Good night!
