My Spring Reading List

Spring is here. Not going to lie – I’ve been so overwhelmed as of late that I wish it was still winter so I could burrow into my blankets and hide for a while longer.

I read some fun books the last few months including “This is How You Lose the Time War” by Max Gladstone and “The House in the Cerulean Sea” by TJ Klune. I do recommend Gladstone’s book if you are looking for a wild, mind-bendy ride. Klune’s book was a cute, fluffy story of no substance so if that’s what you are looking for it will definitely hit that mark.  Recording what I’ve been reading has never been a strong suit, but I’ve been a busy bee with over a dozen stories under my belt in the last few months.

Up next for me:

  • Stephen King’s “Salem’s Lot” will be the next entry into my exploration of King’s writing journey. I expect this journey to take more than a year but that’s okay with me. His journey as an inebriated writer, to a writer facing his mortality, to the writer that he is present-day is something that I want to examine and see how it comes through his work. I am also, slowly, making my way through “On Writing”. His back story is both darker, and not as dark as I expected it to be.
  • After meeting her in 2019 while very pregnant, I am finally getting around to Felicia Day’s “Embrace Your Weird” workbook. I anticipate this taking me longer than spring to finish but I’m stoked to finally get started. Her talk that evening was a good time and my husband loves to comment about how, when we took pictures with her, she ignored him completely and focused on my very pregnant belly.
  • I haven’t decided if this will be an audiobook or not, but Stanley Tucci’s “Taste: My Life Through Food” has been on my hold list at the library for a while now. While I will likely never take the food tour myself I love hearing about relationships through food.
  • My husband has lauded the comic “Lady Mechanika” for some time now. I think he even owns the first 4 volumes. So, my time has come to check out this Victorian, steam-punk masterpiece.

So, that’s a wrap on the stories I am prioritizing in the next few months. We both know there will be others that come up, but I am trying to see if actively prioritizing books makes me more likely to read them or not. I do have quite the backlog built up that could be handled by this method.

Wish me luck!
