I’m here for another check-in on my goals. Here’s to holding myself accountable.
My Quarter 2 goals were as follows (0-3 stars):
- Achieve level 1 mastery in JKD ⭐⭐⭐
- Done! I got my butt kicked but had a great time. I have even been working towards level 2.
- Continue daily yoga ⭐
- Ahhhhhhh. April was good. May and June were both highly questionable. So I wouldn’t give myself a gold star for this. Maybe bronze though? I think I earned that much…
- Wrap up and leave that one job ⭐⭐
- Mostly done. I have a few outstanding tasks that I have put off because they don’t really have a deadline. They are more “nice to haves” than “needs”. I have moved into my new position and have been much happier with it. Solidly a silver star.
- Paint one thing from the Art Sherpa course on YouTube
- Woof. Not even started. I desperately need to add time to paint to my calendar if I want to pretend that painting is a hobby of mine again. It’s been so long 😭 These last few months I have been wrapped up with work, JKD, and reading that I haven’t really branched out much. No gold stars.
- Write something. My dreamy goal is 6.5k words over the course of the quarter but we will see. ⭐⭐⭐
- I wrote something. I may have only published 2k words, but my last journal filled up so fast that I am on to a new one, so I’d say gold star for me.
Before setting my quarter 3 goals, I decided to do a mid-year check-in to see where I was with my yearly goals. I discovered:
- Half weren’t even relevant to my life anymore. Like drawing. Past me was so cute to think I’d make time for this. This is fine! Life changes and what you want, or need, can change with that.
- Other things have become a priority that wasn’t important back in December when I first thought of these goals. Like JKD. Past me is wondering who this martial arts girl is.
- Other things have been trucking along at a steady pace. Like reading where I’m way ahead of reaching my yearly goal.
There are still a lot of things I plan to accomplish this year. This journey is not yet done. For Q3 I have set very specific goals in 4 different areas: financial, creative, education, and physical.
- Financial: Save $2k towards our emergency fund. We had some unexpected expenses in June, and it wiped out our fund (as is the purpose of the fund) so it is time to build this account up again.
- Creative: Paint 3 pieces. I don’t care what the medium is or the size of the project or even completing the project. I am just going to take some time to be creative with a paintbrush in my hand.
- Education: 30-Day Hot Streak on Duolingo. Honestly, I believe this will be the hardest of all the goals. I am working on my Spanish vocabulary though so let’s give this a shot.
- Physical: Achieve Level 2 mastery in JKD. Challenge Day is at the end of August. I’m excited and nervous already. However, I feel good about the curriculum, so I just need to work on my technique more.
Last time I was worried that 5 goals were too many. Now I am worried that 4 goals are too few. Oh well. Here’s to moving forward with bettering myself and allowing myself time to just focus on me.
