Hello, 2023! The time of goal setting and planning. The time many of us refresh our hopes and dreams for the future. My general hopes and dreams continue to be the same as last year. However, my TBR (to be read) list is updated. So let us jump right into what I intend to catch up on this year.
First on the list is the memoir Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman. I pre-ordered it as soon as I could but have yet to start it despite it arriving last year.
Second on my list are two fictions by an author I know from fanfiction: The Atlas Six by Olive Blake and My Mechanical Romance by Alexene Farol Follmuth.
Third, the nonfiction The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk. This book was a Christmas gift I am so excited to dive deep into it.
Fourth on my list is the graphic novel The Killing Joke. Another Christmas gift I received this year and one that has been on my wish list for a long time. I would also love to finish The Night Eaters by the talented individuals behind the Monstress series.
Next are several books I received from OwlCrate – some are from the monthly subscription I got behind on, but most are from their big sale. This list includes:
- The Luminaries by Susan Dennard
- The Whispering Dark by Kelly Andrew
- Only A Monster by Vanessa Len
- The Drowned Woods by Emily Lloyd-Jones
And, finally, are a couple of classics. I’ve never read The Secret Garden, and it is time to reread Frankenstein. These are the ones I will reach for if I get the urge for a classic.
This list is long for me. I am not sure I will complete it, but I am stoked to start chipping things off it. These are the books I am excited to dig into between lulls in my library loans and monthly OwlCrate deliveries.
What books are you hoping to read this year?
