The Day Your Hero Died, Part 1 – A Poem

Do you remember the day your hero died?

Hands clamped, lip trembling.

I’m sorry.

Do you remember the day your hero died?

Hunched over, sobbing.

I’m sorry.

Do you remember the day your hero died?

Tears streaming down their face because they realize.

I’m sorry this is the way it has to be.

I’m sorry this is how it has come down.

I’m sorry it’s my fault.

Do you remember the day your hero died?

What are you supposed to do?

Stand back up and pretend everything is okay?

It’s not.

It’s not okay.

Your hero DIED.

Yet here you are:

Being the strong one

The brave one

Standing up to take charge because your hero died

And he isn’t here anymore.

Do you remember the day your hero died?

I do.
