The Day Your Hero Died, Part 2 – A Poem

Do you remember the day your hero died?

The day you grew and changed – forced alive.

What a day that was, to remember for all time.

Do you remember the day your hero died?

Perhaps that was the only day he did not lie.

Years from now, looking back you’ll recognize.

The hate, the rage, the helplessness,

Those were what he left when he died.

How unworthy of being a hero to leave no faith behind.

Thank god he’s dead, that man who lied.

You’ll rage and rationalize, feeling cheated and betrayed

The day your hero died.

Well perhaps that was the only day he did not lie.

Perhaps take peace that now he’s gone.

He’s gone and left you here to live, to thrive.

Live with peace knowing you do not lie.

Breathe relief being free of that hide.

Put to rest the hate and shame, come to bed without the doubts.

You are free to be, so be free.

You are your own hero now.

Let’s live and let be.
